The Contoocook Valley School District is pleased to share that ConVal Regional High School art teacher Karrie Mitschmyer was honored by the New Hampshire Art Educators Association (NHAEA) with the High School Division Award for the 2024-25 school year.

Each year, elementary, middle, high and post-secondary school art educators statewide are invited to apply for the Educator of the Year award. An educator is chosen from each division and put into the pool of nominees for the Educator of the Year award. The Award program aims to honor art educators who have made significant contributions to Art Education or art programs within their school, community or professional organization.

ConVal High School Principal Heather McKillop nominated Mitschmyer for the award.

Mitschmyer was selected by the Association for the High School Division Award, designating her as a premier art educator in the state.

Mitschmyer has been teaching art at ConVal for nine years. In that time, she has developed a comprehensive education for students by applying her diverse artistic skill set to the curriculum. Under her leadership, students have been able to learn about ceramics, 2D studio art and 3D studio art.

Mitschmyer is also a volunteer advisor for Art Extended Learning Opportunities. In this role, she facilitates students in developing personalized plans of study in line with their passions. She is also the advisor of the Yearbook Club, where her oversight has helped to develop yearbooks that highlight the values of art and creativity.

Outside of the classroom, Mitschmyer is the Chair of the Children in the Arts Committee. As Chair, she organizes and coordinates community events that provide opportunities for artistic expression. One of the major events she organizes is the annual Children in the Arts Festival, which offers local children’s art vendors, an art walk, hands-on art opportunities, entertainment shows and more.

In a letter to Principal McKillop, The Association’s Awards Committee said that Mitschmyer’s “creativity and enthusiasm working with students, colleagues and community members enriches art education in our state.” The committee also noted Mitschmyer’s dedication, community engagement and creative programming.

Mitschmyer will be recognized at the NHAEA Fall Conference on Oct. 19 at New England College.

“Karrie has a natural gift at engaging people through art and our school is better because of it,” said Principal McKillop. “I am proud that her energy and passion is able to be seen and recognized by her peers. Myself and the rest of ConVal congratulate Ms. Mitschmyer on this wonderful achievement.”
