Program will be the First in a Three-Part Series
PETERBOROUGH — Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Director of Student Services Cari Christian-Coates would like to invite Great Brook School, South Meadow School and ConVal Regional High School students and their families to attend the first of three mental health webinars later this month.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 6-8 p.m., the district will hold an online viewing of “The Upstanders”. The film is about resilience, attention, and the power of connection to end bullying and the brain science behind cyber-bullying, bullying among friends, families and co-workers. The film is rate for those age 13 and older.
After the film, a panel of child mental health experts will discuss its content and how students can apply the lessons learned in their own lives:
- Student Support Counselor Jill Evelyn from the ConVal School District
- New Hampshire Family Network Coordinator Michele Waston from the New Hampshire branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
- Senior Clinical Psychologist Jerry Bubrick from the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute in New York City.
Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to ask specific questions they may have during the webinar as well.

“Bullying and mental health are matters that we take seriously, so we are excited to offer this event for our community to help spread awareness and teach them powerful lessons on these complex topics,” Coates said. “This lessons learned from this film will help to cultivate a positive, supportive community for our students and within our district.”
This is the first of three films that will be shown over the course of the 2020-21 school year. The next film, “Like”, will be shown in February and discusses the impact social media has on mental health. The third film, “Angst”, will be shown in April and raises awareness about anxiety.
All films are rated for those age 10 and older.
“We take great pride in helping our students understand and be aware of their own social and emotional needs, and to ensure they feel supported, valued and safe,” Superintendent Rizzo Saunders said. “We hope you will join us for this series, and that the films and discussions will provide valuable insight and information for all who attend.”
More information about these events will be shared at a later date.
The film, panel discussions and Q&A will be recorded and available for viewing for families who are not able to attend.
