PETERBOROUGH — ConVal Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Katherine Foecking are pleased to announce that Great Brook School was recently awarded a $7,000 Robotics Education Development Program Grant from the New Hampshire Department of Education.

The grant will benefit the Robotics Club, which was launched in 2018.  The club has 12 members and is open to students in Grades 5 through 8.

Funding will be used for attendance fees for robotics competitions, including transportation and material costs.

The grant also will allow for additional stipended coaches, which will expand the availability of the club to more students and increase the number of weekly meetings from twice a week to up to four.

“We are so grateful to receive this funding, especially given the increasing amount of interest and career opportunities in STEM-related fields,” Superintendent Rizzo Saunders said. “This funding will help the club to expand hands-on learning opportunities, which will allow students to build a solid foundation in robotics. I encourage any students with an interest in robotics or technology to join.”

The district wishes to thank Rick Mellin, a local resident and President of CFM Technologies in Peterborough, for his support of the Robotics Club and for his help in securing this grant.

“Rick has been instrumental in leading the way for the Robotics Club at Great Brook School,” Principal Foecking said. “We are grateful for his dedication to the school, expertise in robotics and diligence in securing this funding.”

Any student interested in joining the Robotics Club should talk to Administrative Assistant Catrina Young in the main office.
