Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Adam Caragher are delighted to share that students and staff at Great Brook School took part in Red Ribbon Week, which aims to help keep kids drug-free.
Red Ribbon Week, observed each year from Oct. 23-31, is the nation’s largest and longest running drug abuse prevention program. In recognition of Red Ribbon Week, GBS students participated in a variety of activities designed to help them learn more about the initiative and to encourage them to take a stand against drug use.
Some of the activities included the school’s “Wear Red Campaign,” where students were encouraged to wear red clothing to school. The GBS Morning show also participated as different staff and students shared a message of encouragement about being drug-free.
Students also had the opportunity to speak with a guest from Reality Check – a local organization committed to help people prevent, treat, and recover from drug and alcohol addiction – in the lunchroom.
The culmination of activities was on Thursday afternoon when a drone photo was taken with GBS students in the shape of a ribbon as a visual statement to choose to be drug-free.
“This was a special event that we participated in as part of a national effort to help students understand and make positive choices for their health and well-being,” said Principal Caragher. “Thank you so much to our School Counselor Laura Gourlay for helping to organize the week and make it a success!”
