PETERBOROUGH- ConVal School District Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Heather McKillop are pleased to announce that 10 ConVal High School students were recognized for their strong performance on the National German Exam.

The National German Exam is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German and is administered annually to 20,000 high school students in all 50 states and 20 countries. ConVal High School students took the test earlier this month.

The exam consists of four levels, with each level containing 100 questions, which include multiple choice, matching and true/false. The test is broken down into two parts: listening and reading. All materials used in the exam are from authentic resources.

Each segment of the exam assesses students’ proficiency and understanding of elements ranging from basic individual sentences and conversations to more complex conversations, everyday language use, all the way to more complex or nuanced topics and texts.

Participation is voluntary, and once the exam is completed, students are presented with gold, silver, bronze and achievement awards based on their scores.

Ten ConVal High School students received the following recognition:

Bronzeurkunde (Bronze) in level two: Sophomore Izzy Jobin and junior Nathan Klonel

Achievement Awards in level two: Sophomores Ronia Foecking, Maeve Finn, Kai Reitnauer and Clara Christensen

Achievement Awards in level four: Seniors Colby Sullivan, Eva McCullough, and Laramie Wilson and junior Jennifer Hopkins

Students worked with German teachers Liz Concannon and Cindi Hodgdon.

“I want to congratulate all the students who took the time to participate in this national exam to test their language skills,” Principal McKillop said. “This is an impressive achievement and we are very proud of our students, as well as the teachers who’ve worked hard to prepare them for this work.”
