Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Larry Pimental would like to share that students and staff at Peterborough Elementary School recently took part in Read for the Record, a global read-aloud experience.

On Thursday, Oct. 26, Peterborough Elementary School joined more than 2 million readers and thousands of classrooms, libraries, and communities to celebrate literacy by participating in Read for the Record. PES also participated in the event last year.

As part of the event, PES students and staff gathered in the gymnasium, along with more than a dozen family members and guest readers, for an introduction and welcome to the event, then headed off to classrooms to read together and make a wishing star.

This year’s featured book, “With Lots of Love” by Jenny Torres Sanchez, tells a story about family, finding ways to stay connected, and sharing love across distances. The themes of familial relationships, food, celebrations, and connecting with loved ones over long distances aim to inspire and comfort young children and families all year long.

Read for the Record – organized by Jumpstart – is the world’s largest shared reading experience that celebrates and supports children’s early language and social-emotional development.

Schools can report their involvement online in order to help Read for the Record track participation, and hopefully break the record for the highest participation in event history.

“Here at PES, we strive to improve our family engagement and enrich our students’ school experience. Our participation in Read for the Record was just one of the many ways we work to do just that,” said Principal Pimental. “We are anxiously awaiting the participation results from the event to see if we helped establish a record!”

Funding for the books and the activities was provided by Title I.
