PETERBOROUGH- ConVal School District Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Heather McKillop are pleased to announce that ConVal High School senior Daniel McCall won first place in the District 2 American Legion Oratorical Contest.

The contest was held Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Milford American Legion Post 23.

The American Legion Oratorical Contest aims to help students develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution.

Speaking subjects must be on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with some emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to the government. Speeches are eight to 10 minutes long, and three to five minute speeches on an assigned topic are also part of the contest. Winners receive scholarships to put toward their college education.

McCall prepared speeches on the Constitution’s Elastic Clause, as well as the sixth, 10th, 14th and 16th amendments.

“We would like to congratulate Daniel on winning the Oratorical Contest,” Principal McKillop said. “This is a great achievement that showcases the importance of U.S. history and the impact it still has on students today.”
