DUBLIN — Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Nicole Pease would like to share that Dublin Consolidated revealed which book students would read for their One School, One Book program.

During March, DCS students and families will participate in the One School, One Book, a national family literacy program, to promote reading and community engagement. The book that DCS will read is “The Mouse and the Motorcycle” by Beverly Cleary.

To kick off the reveal, DCS staff participated in a skit for students to get an idea of what they would be reading and organized a special delivery on March 8.

Books were delivered to students by special guests from the Dublin Police and Fire who arrived in cruisers and trucks with flashing lights and sirens. Additionally, Dublin resident John Albano rode up in his motorcycle to help deliver the “Mouse and the Motorcycle” books to DCS students.

Parents and community members helped prepare for the book reveal and skit. Dublin School Teacher, and DCS parent, Dylan Pierpont, had his high school students create the frame for the backdrop used in the skit. Paraprofessional Emily Platt painted the scenery, DCS parent Ian Bresnehan loaned the school a minibike, and ConVal staff member, Liz Moore loaned DCS a large stuffed mouse.

For the program Teachers Heather Fletcher and Deb Lang partnered with local businesses in town to create a scavenger hunt for students and families to receive clues and travel through town to find mouse and motorcycle posters.

“One School, One Book is a great program for students and families to participate in, while promoting active reading and community engagement,” said Principal Pease. “It was wonderful to see students’ excitement as we revealed the title of the book and interacted with our public safety officials and community members who delivered the material and partnered with us for this initiative. I am truly thankful that our community has come together to support our students.”
