PETERBORUGH– Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Heather McKillop are pleased to share that ConVal High School students participated in and won the 2024 Clay Competition.

The 2024 Clay Competition was held on March 29, hosted by Studio 550 in Manchester, and featured 11 ConVal students. Students formed 3 teams to participate in the competition.

The competition included a variety of challenges that required skills pertaining to clay, such as wheel throwing and sculpture building. Each challenge involved determination and teamwork.

The winning team was comprised of senior Justin Borges, junior Garret Rousseau, sophomore Aidan Maroney, and first-year Kellen Steere. The competition was scored by three guest judges from Studio 550, based on how teams worked together utilizing their hand building and wheel throwing skills to create works of art, in a timely way.

Additional teams included seniors Laura Phillips and Dani Tracey, junior Hannah Daniels, and sophomores Brielle Proctor, Savannah McCarthy, Surasa Kalvaitis, and Rowan McClusky.

Students were accompanied to the competition by Visual Performing Arts Teacher Karrie Mitschmyer.

“This was a great event for our students as they were able to work as a team and show their skills. I would also like to thank Karrie for supporting our students through this competition, her constant inspiration and encouragement shines through these programs,” said Principal McKillop. “We hope we are able to compete and send students to this competition next year. Studio 550 puts on an amazing clay competition and has an excellent studio space to host classes and community events.”
