FRANCESTOWN — Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Rachel Lunan-Hill are pleased to share that Francestown Elementary hosted an interactive math night for students and parents.

Math Night was held for students in grades K-4 and families to come together as a community and participate in interactive activities with their peers while celebrating math.

Francestown teachers created a variety of math-related activities including an obstacle course, an interactive runway, and a race across the country.

The obstacle course was created by Grade K-1 Teacher Hannah Reinfrank and included special stops where students had to jump, climb, and complete math tasks. Math tasks included making 10 by completing seven-star jumps and three squats.

Students also learned and worked with common factors on a runway, created by Grades 3-4 Teacher Laura Doell. Students were tasked with hitting a target with a laser, working with angles, and finding the right pattern to steer planes into a safe landing.

During the race across the country activity, created by Grade 2 Teacher Margaret Sanchez, students traveled from coast to coast by rolling dice and using multiplication and addition to determine how many miles they traveled.

Math Night was kicked off with a family-style meal. The school enjoyed a pizza party as part of a fundraiser made possible by the Francestown PTO. The PTO held the fundraiser in partnership with Rick and Diane’s Pizza in Antrim, where families came together and raised money for future FES projects.

“This was a wonderful night of interactive and educational fun for all,” said Principal Lunan-Hill. “I would like to thank the PTO and Rick and Diane’s Pizza for their partnership. It was great to see students engaged and excited to learn about and practice math.”
