Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders, Principal Heather McKillop, and Director of Athletics and Co-Curriculars Kevin Proctor are pleased to share that ConVal High School and ConVal Athletics partnered with community volunteers and the Friends of ConVal Athletics (FCVA) to participate in WMUR’s annual NH Tackles Hunger food drive.

NH Tackles Hunger is an annual event put on by WMUR in which high schools around the state partner to collect non-perishable and shelf-stable food items and donations for local food pantries. The drive was held throughout the week of Sept. 18-22.

As part of the drive, ConVal Athletics accepted food and monetary donations at all home sports matches on Friday, Sept. 22. Donations were also collected at the school’s open house on Thursday, Sept. 21.

ConVal also went a step further and created a Teachers in Academic Support Centers (TASC) homeroom challenge, with the goal of being the TASC homeroom that raised the most donations by the end of the week. ConVal’s National Honors Society volunteered their services to visit each of the homerooms to collect the donations.

As part of NH Tackles Hunger, WMUR also donates Hannaford gift cards to each of the participating schools. The captains of the various sports teams traveled to Hannaford on Thursday, Sept. 21 to use the gift cards to purchase more donation items.

ConVal collected a total of $270.82 and 980 pounds of food, which will be donated to those in need.

“We are so proud of our community, especially our students who have poured their energy into this drive throughout the past week to make an impact on their community,” said Superintendent Saunders. “In the words of WMUR, ConVal has been the gold standard in this annual food drive, and we couldn’t be happier with how our school chooses to give back to its community.”
