GREENFIELD— Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Shawne Hilliard are pleased to announce that Greenfield Elementary School recently participated in STEM interactive learning programs courtesy of retired engineer David Dewitt.

Greenfield Elementary recently hosted Dublin resident and retired engineer David Dewitt who visited students in grades K-3 and grade 4 and presented STEM workshops.

During his visit with students in grades K-3, Dewitt shared the wonders of his codable robot, Mtiny. Dewitt showed students how to program the robot by using codable blocks and a remote control. The remote is used to scan certain blocks, transferring directional information to the robot to tell it what path to follow.

Students then watched as the robot followed their coded instructions.

Students in grade 4 had the opportunity to work with Dewitt to bring their ideas to life. In collaboration with Greenfield Elementary Art Teacher Justin Melle students created original works of art that will be printed in 3-D using a 3-D printer provided by Dewitt. The framed 3-D art will be put on display in the GES foyer for all to enjoy, and ultimately will go home with students.

The goal of these visits and presentations was to show students a hands-on approach to STEM learning. By seeing code and their ideas come to life, students were able to explore the importance of STEM.

“We wanted to give students an opportunity to experience what STEM learning is and what it could be,” said Principal Hilliard. “On behalf of Greenfield Elementary, I would like to thank Mr. Dewitt for coming to our school and sharing his insight and engaging with students.”
