Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Timothy Iwanowicz are proud to announce that Temple Elementary School Teacher Tina Perreault has been recognized as the Harris Center Educator of the Year.

Perreault was recognized as Educator of the Year during the Harris Center’s annual meeting on Sunday, Oct. 22.

Each year, the Harris Center School Program Staff selects one exceptional teacher out of 125 candidates to be honored for exemplifying the best of teaching, and for their commitment to helping students appreciate and understand the natural world.

Perreault was recognized for her wisdom, imagination, and accomplishments, and the impact she’s had on students.

Perreault is also a recipient of a Harris Center mini-grant, which will be used to purchase supplies for her outdoor learning projects.

“The youngest children at Temple Elementary School are growing more and more comfortable using their tools to measure leaves, snow depth, animal tracks, and the diameter of their special tree friend,” said Janet Altobello, Harris Center School Program Director. “With Tina as their teacher, these lucky children are developing and deepening their connection with nearby nature following Tina’s example of wonder, enthusiasm, and gratitude.”

The Harris Center for Conservation Education is a nonprofit organization that promotes understanding and respect for the natural world through education, direct protection and stewardship of the Monadnock region’s natural resources, conservation research and programs that encourage active participation in the outdoors.

“Students at TES receive a unique, hands-on experience that feeds their curiosity, sense of wonder, and interest in the natural environment. Tina regularly explores the TES outdoor neighborhood and integrates students’ science studies into other curriculum areas such as reading, writing, and math,” said Principal Iwanowicz. “We are very proud that Tina has been recognized by the Harris Center for her exemplary science teaching.”
