The ConVal School District and School Board proudly announce that Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Rizzo Saunders was recently recognized as a finalist for National Superintendent of the Year at the National Conference on Education in San Diego, California.

Dr. Rizzo Saunders was one of four finalists announced by AASA in December, the first New Hampshire superintendent to ever be so honored.

“Being a finalist for National Superintendent of the Year among more than 16,000 superintendents nationally is an incredible honor. It was a privilege to meet so many talented leaders from across the country in San Diego, and hearing their perspectives will help our district prosper in the future,” Superintendent Dr. Rizzo Saunders said.

Dr. Rizzo Saunders was nominated for New Hampshire Superintendent of the Year by a group of peers for her dedication to education, focus on elevating women in leadership positions, and as lead plaintiff in a lawsuit against the State of New Hampshire to create more equitable K-12 funding. An AASA panel reviews all state selections and chooses four finalists for Superintendent of the Year consideration.

Dr. Joe Gothard, St. Paul, Minn., Public Schools, was named National Superintendent of the Year at a ceremony on Feb. 15.

“Congratulations to Dr. Gothard and the other finalists. Their enthusiasm for public education and their focus on helping children reach their full potential was evident throughout the conference,” Dr. Rizzo Saunders said.

Conval School Board Chair Richard Dunning said, “On behalf of the School Board, we are pleased to see Dr. Rizzo Saunders’ work for our District be recognized on a national stage. Her dedication to students is evident through her continuous commitment to the success of our District. Congratulations!”

Dr. Rizzo Saunders said: “The important work we do each day as educators in our District is for the children of our tight-knit community. Our passionate team of colleagues and staff are focused on excellence and work tirelessly to make our schools a wonderful place to learn and grow.

“Thank you to our School Board, whose immense support has allowed us to succeed in our endeavors, and to our greater community for their dedication to our kids,” she said.
