Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Nicole Pease are pleased to share that Dublin Consolidated School recently hosted a Harvest Supper and Open House to connect with the school community.

On Friday, Oct. 13, the DCS school community gathered together to enjoy a Harvest Supper before the school’s Open House.

The potluck supper became a tradition six years ago, when DCS staff decided to refresh the traditional Open House by adding the potluck, which allowed students, staff, and families to engage in further conversation and community building.

Under the careful guidance of their teachers, students prepared ingredients for soups utilizing some of the bounty from the school gardens to share with their peers and community members.

After families enjoyed their meal, students had an opportunity to showcase their learning.

Students sang the DCS school song, and used American Sign Language (ASL) to sign and sing “This Land is Your Land.” Teacher Deb Quinn, who is fluent in sign language, has been teaching DCS staff and students the song in sign.

Grade 2 students then showcased their acting skills as they shared a poem, “A Bug Sat in a Silver Flower” by Karla Kuskin, which they have been learning in the classroom.

“It was very moving to see our students perform in front of their families,” said Principal Pease. “Community is so important in our student’s education and this event was all about strengthening our connections.”
