BENNINGTON — Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Alisha Hansen-Proulx are pleased to share that Pierce School students celebrated Groundhog Day with their annual assembly.

On Friday, Feb. 2, Pierce School students gathered to learn about Punxsutawney Phil, and his process for seeing his shadow and predicting the spring season.

To kick off the assembly, Grade 4 students welcomed classmates and families by playing the drums and Grade 3 teacher Jenn Sutton dressed up and presented a puppet show that replicated Punxsutawney Phil’s spring investigation.

Students in Grades K-4 presented their knowledge of hibernation, a variety of different animals, and why Groundhog Day is celebrated each year.

Pierce School PTO member Crystle Maki provided popcorn for the event.

“It was wonderful to see students interact and get excited to celebrate Groundhog Day with their peers and families,” said Principal Hansen-Proulx. “This assembly was a way to bring the community together while engaging students and families in traditions through hands-on learning.”
