District Provides Update on Proposed Employee Contract

PETERBOROUGH — Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and the ConVal School District are reflecting on the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic and the work teachers have done over the last year to keep students engaged amid so much uncertainty.

The district has produced the following video showcasing what teachers have accomplished since the pandemic began:

“Our educators and school staff have gone above and beyond this school year to make sure their students have the support and resources they need to continue to learn, grow and challenge themselves in the classroom, and they have done so amid unique and diverse challenges and changes to education as a result of the pandemic,” Superintendent Rizzo Saunders said.

Educators have been faced with myriad challenges amid the ongoing pandemic, including preparing lessons for online learning, managing fully remote and in-person learners at the same time, adapting to and mastering new technology, organizing their classrooms to meet various new public health expectations, and more.

On March 9, voters in the district’s nine sending towns will consider the adoption of article two of the 2021 district warrant, which outlines a proposed collective bargaining agreement reached by the ConVal School Board and ConVal Education Association.

Article two asks voters to ratify a one-year contract, which would be effective for the upcoming school year, which includes an average raise of 3.65% for teachers and educators that are part of the collective bargaining unit. The contract affects would include teachers, paraprofessionals, specialized service providers, school nurses, school counselors and social workers, and would amount to an $847,899 increase to salaries and benefits for these positions.

The ConVal School Board has recommended the adoption of the article.
