PETERBOROUGH 一 Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Jessica Vezina would like to invite the Hancock community to Hancock Elementary School’s annual Harvest Dinner to celebrate students’ work with the Cornucopia Project.

WHEN:

Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 5-6:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Hancock Elementary School, 10 Elementary Lane.

WHAT:

Hancock Elementary School is holding its annual Harvest Dinner, which is held in celebration of first and second-grade students’ work with the Cornucopia Project.

This past spring, students began their work with Cornucopia, a local organization in Peterborough dedicated to providing hands-on nutrition education to students and residents of New Hampshire, preparing the HES school gardens by planting and nurturing their crops. Now that the crops are ready, students are excited to promote the concept of farm-to-table living and to use their harvest to create a delicious meal for their families and HES staff.

The event aims to bring the community together to enjoy soups and desserts made by the students. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will also run a silent auction during the dinner to fundraise for their yearly events.

The meal will be made using the students’ harvest from the HES school garden as well as contributions from other local farms and individuals. The dinner, which will feature a variety of soups, bread, apple cider and apple crisp for dessert, will be prepared and served by HES students with assistance from staff, PTO members and their families.

The dinner is free of charge and is open to the Hancock community.

“The Harvest Dinner is a great way to recognize our students and the hard work that they’ve put into a project that they love,” said Principal Vezina. “As first graders, they plant in the spring and in the fall, and then as second graders they harvest what they have grown. Their work with Cornucopia is a great way to make learning fun and engaging, and we can’t wait to celebrate at the Harvest Dinner!”
