ANTRIM 一 Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Antrim Elementary Principal Beth Gibney are pleased to share that members of the ConVal High School football team spent a morning at AES building positive relationships and greeting students as they arrived for the day.
On Friday, Sept. 22, ConVal football players Bradley Brunelle, Eliot Featherstone, Broden Frosch, James Healey, Aidan Learn, and Kai Reitnauer, greeted AES students with cheers and high-fives as they entered the school.
The AES mascot, Blaze the eagle, also came out to greet the elementary students.
During morning recess, students and student-athletes played tag and four-square, tossed a football, and made connections with one another.
Through this experience, the student-athletes’ desire to engage with the broader school community and practice their social responsibility. AES students felt cared for and supported, with many expressing their gratitude for the visit as well as their excitement about attending the next ConVal home game.
“Positive interactions between older and younger students can create opportunities for connections, instill core character development and leadership, and help facilitate social emotional growth,” said Principal Gibney. “AES students lit up when they saw the student-athletes at the school in the morning and had so much fun getting to know them during the visit. We are excited to foster these relationships as the school year continues!”
AES hopes to expand on the event and create a mentoring program including a variety of high school student leaders and elementary students.
