PETERBOROUGH 一 Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders is pleased to announce that ConVal School District will offer summer learning opportunities for elementary and middle school students.

Summer learning opportunities will include the Title 1, Explore and Expand, and Middle School Summer Academy programs, which will run from July 5 through July 27.

Elementary Programs will be held in two locations, Antrim and Peterborough Elementary Schools. In order for middle school students to participate in high school extension courses, the Middle School Program will be held at ConVal High School.

The Explore and Expand Summer Learning Program is for students going into Grades 1-4. The program is designed to support student learning by bolstering school-year skills and helping to fight summer learning loss. Students will receive one and a half hours of academic support in both mathematics and literacy from ConVal certified teachers and tutors. An additional hour of the program is reserved for enrichment and exploration, including drumming and cartooning residencies.

The Title 1 Program is for students going into Grades 1-5. The program is designed to support student learning in reading. Students will receive up to three hours of academic support daily from ConVal certified teachers. Time for snacks and breaks will be included. A portion of the program will be dedicated to participating in the residencies and partnering with our local community to support and enrich student learning.

The Title 1 Program is open to all students in Peterborough Elementary, Antrim Elementary, and Pierce School. Only students who received Title 1 services at Francestown Elementary may participate in the Title 1 Summer Program.

The Middle School Summer Academy for students going into Grades 5 and 6 is designed to introduce students to middle school learning opportunities while bolstering school-year skills and helping to fight summer learning loss in both math and literacy. Students in the Middle School Summer Academy have the opportunity to participate in a Residency similar to Explore and Expand, participate in a 2 hour band class, participate in exploratory band, or participate in the CVHS Theater program.

The Middle School Summer Academy for students going into Grades 7 and 8 is designed to introduce students to middle and high school learning opportunities while bolstering school-year skills and helping to fight summer learning loss in both math and literacy.

Two sessions are offered a day. The first session runs from 8-10 a.m. and the second session runs from 10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Students may sign up for two of the following: math, ELA, band (if already participating in band), music exploration for students who are not in band, a high school enrichment class (TBD) and/or theater. Math and ELA programming may include targeted tutoring in small groups.

Information regarding High School Summer Academy for rising 9th through 12th graders will be released at the end of April.

Summer programs for high school students will be released in early May.

“We are excited to offer enriching learning opportunities as well as targeted tutoring for all students,” said Superintendent Saunders. “Students who participate in summer learning return to school confident in their knowledge and skills and ready to take on new academic challenges.”
